Vincent the Dog

I don’t much go in for coffee that takes more than two words to order. But there’s a new dog in the neighbourhood and he’s changed me. Vincent the Dog is the cool new mutt café on the block.

Standing guard on Drummond Street, Vincent serves up specialty and small batch coffee in Carlton – without a stiff upper lip. With Vincent (a human with the same namesake) behind the coffee machine, you can choose from their house blend Candyman, the seasonal roast Codeblack (my choice) or their single origin from Ethiopia. They’ve also updated the humble filter coffee with a selection of international roasts and the usual fanfare of cold-drip and pour overs.

Aside from the brews, Vincent the Dog has teamed up with Melbourne Bakery 5 & Dime to bring us boutique bagels from Friday to Monday. The bacon and egg bagel ($9.9) is the best. On Wednesdays and Thursdays there’s a rotation of sandwiches (from $9.9.)

I wolfed down the fruit plate too ($8.5) and contemplated their bircher muesli with fruit and yoghurt ($9.9).

For when the hair of the dog is no answer or you’re just in need of a damn good coffee, get to Vincent the Dog.

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
