Photographer of the week: Eliza Harrison

Eliza Harrison’s portraits are alluring. Intense, lush and grungy, her subjects look directly down the camera, creating an immediate intimacy with the viewer.

“I like having my subjects stare directly into my lens so they can connect with the you,” she says.

“I love photographing people and portraits, I’ve never had a passion for photographing landscapes or objects.”

Currently undertaking her BA in photography at RMIT, Eliza lives in Melbourne and works as a freelance photographer while she completes her studies.

Rather than being over-analytical with her photography, she prefers to let her work speak for itself.

“In the wise words of Helmut Newton, ‘There are only two dirty words in photography, one is ‘art’ and the other is ‘good taste.’ Beauty is intellect, and glamour has nothing to do with money.’”
