Nite Art

During what could be considered the ‘ultimate art opening’, Melbourne will host over 56 individual artists displaying their work over the course of a single evening on Wednesday July 24. Included as part of City of Melbourne’s Look.Stop.Shop program, Nite Art will display all forms of visual arts from photography, painting and printmaking to sculpture and installations.

The program comprises 21 simultaneous exhibitions taking place across four precincts throughout the inner-city; at Guilford Lane, Upper Bourke Street, Flinders Lane and North Melbourne.

Playing the role of festival hub for the evening is Shebeen — the bar that turned the idea of social drinking into social enterprise, with 100% of their profits going to the developing world. Shebeen will also host an installation by artist Dylan Martorell — so art aficionados can keep the beer and creative energy flowing.

For those looking for a more interactive experience, try the series of art walks and talks on offer during the night. To assist with transport between the venues, private chauffeur service Uber will be on hand (and will make you feel more extravagant than hitching a ride on your mate’s fixie).

Be sure to check out work by Kevin Chin, Ben Davies, Ian Friend, Audrey Kawasaki and Reko Rennie, among many others.

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
