Madame Squint

Asian cuisine isn’t known for its burgers, but Madame Squint’s take on the classic US dish show there’s more to fusion cuisine than lemon chicken.

Opening last week, this Little Collins Street cafe is a cosy lunch space with an easy-to-digest menu. You choose one of two burger ‘buns’ (steamed bao buns or Japanese rice) then select a filling.

There’s no Whopper with cheese or McFeast here, instead fillings like beef rendang, soft shell crab & pork katsu. Top it all off with Korean spicy sauce, Kewpie mayo and nori sheets. Coke and Fanta have been replaced with fresh coconut juice and salads are available after 11am.

Open daily from 7am, Madame Squint also has breakfast covered with its spin on the venerable toastie: a puff pastry sandwich or toasted brioche with sweet or savoury fillings. Alternatively, live on the wild side and try the breakfast burger- a bao bun with bacon and eggs.

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
