Asta

A few months ago Asta was pursuing her college studies like most other 18 year olds. This month, she’s set to grace the stage at Pyramid Rock Festival alongside some of Australia’s best known artists.

If you’re not acquainted with the name, you may be with the voice. In August this year her original song “My Heart is on Fire”, saw Asta climb to the top of the Triple J Unearthed High charts. She became the first ever solo artist to win the Australia-wide competition, beating over 800 other musical hopefuls.

The single was produced by Scientists of Modern Music’s’ Cal Young, who collaborated with Asta after meeting her at a bar in Hobart, where they both hail from.

“Cal and I were sitting at a bar and I said I’ve got this song and I sung it to him over the table,” explains Asta.

Combining their musical backgrounds in indie-pop and electronica, Asta and Young have delivered an up-tempo track that has become a popular summer anthem across Australia.

“We recorded vocals and put a beat behind it and it kind of just came to life. I’ve always been glued to my guitar so it was my first collaboration and it was refreshing. I grew up listening to the Eurythmics and that’s been quite an influence on me at the moment. I tend to love the 80’s.”

So what can Pyramid Rock revellers expect from Asta’s performance?

“I’ll be busting out some crazy dance moves and I’ve got a pretty killer costume already. It’s this sparkly gold shoulder padded number.”

Asta will be performing at the Pyramid Rock Festival on New Year’s Eve.

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
