The Design Files Open House

Even if you’re not an avid blog reader you’ve most likely heard of The Design Files, the beautiful blog from Melbourne’s own Lucy Feagins.

This weekend Lucy is moving offline and setting up her second Design Files Open House, a pop-up that transforms one lucky house into a design nerd’s nirvana filled with the works of artists, designers and clever crafty types. Sort of like a celebrity makeover for homes. And everything’s for sale.

After the success of last year’s inaugural Open House in Fitzroy, Lucy’s crossed the river and is setting up shop in Windsor. We caught up with the busy blogger as she was putting the finishing touches on her new ‘house’.

“I felt it was important to change the location and keep things interesting – as usual we’ve filled it with crazy colour and artwork floor to ceiling! There are many creatives and artists who were involved last year, but we do have lot of new inclusions too – such as tableware and soft furnishings from iconic design house Marimekko.”

Lucy says the process has been a bit like designing her ultimate home, but a bit more chockers than usual. The only problem has been choosing which items to include.

“There are so many things I love! I just try to select a colour range based on the rooms we have in the house, taking into account the colour palette of the furniture and rugs, also based on what we know was popular last year, and a bit of gut instinct.”

So if you’re after something a little bit different for yourself or a Christmas gift, chances are you’ll find it in the Open House. They’ll also be coffee and food on-hand from Market Lane and Cookes Food, while the lovely Lucy will be there all weekend to say g’day.

“Please come say hi! But don’t tell me I look tired… I know I look tired.”

Get in early, something tells me this’ll be busier than Walmart on Black Friday. Below is a video from last year’s Open House to get you in the mood.
