Shiny Metal Rabbit
It’s Chinese New Year,  the year of the Shiny Metal Rabbit. Why not celebrate with a night of metal madness? Vengeance Behold play this Thursday at The Portland Hotel (cnr of Russell and Little Collins). Entry is $7

Chinese New Year
To celebrate the Premier and Lord Mayor will officially launch the 2011 Chinese New Year Festival this Sunday in Chinatown. There will be the lighting of strings of firecrackers, ushering in the Year of the Rabbit and casting off the bad spirits of the old year. They’ll also be dragons, drums, dancing and food. Happy New Year!

‘Step Into My Office, Baby’ – An Indie & ’60s Dance Night
Friday is on my mind and this Friday brings your fortnightly dose of Step Into My Office, Baby – a club night run by some of Melbourne’s finest DJs: Andy McClelland (‘Finishing School’), Nathan Jones (‘Panic!’ and ‘Safety House’) and Miss Modette (‘Safety House’). Over two levels at the John Curtin Hotel they’ll till you shake, rattle and roll.

Low and Behold

Take a Good Look at Your Self Portraits
People have been holding the camera at arms length and trying to get that perfect profile pic for much longer than you think.  The Naked Face: Self-Portraits reveals how artists have used self-portraiture to embellish their social status, illustrate their talent and influence popular culture through the ages. Works by celebrated Australian artists Hugh Ramsay, Mike Parr, John Brack and Peter Booth are displayed alongside self-portraits by international artists such as Rembrandt, Edward Steichen, Cindy Sherman and Coco Chanel.
