20. Oct, 2012
Check this Sunday’s Joan Crawford Classics at the Astor, Mildred Pearce and Flamingo Road.
Mildred Pierce is based on a James M. Cain novel and features Joan Crawford. She is a successful business woman, but has a wanton daughter who is hitting on her man. Seething sexual undercurrents occasionally surface in this noir niblet.
The other flick – Flamingo Road – starts around 9:15pm, and has Joan Crawford again, this time as a carnival dancer, intriguing characters Scott and Brian with her mix of tough and sensitive emotions. This is another sleazy and corrupt potrayal of the world you come to expect with anything with Joan Crawford in it.
WHEN: Sunday, 27 October, starts 7pm
WHERE: Astor Theatre, Cnr Chapel Street and Dandenong Road, St Kilda
