SBS’s controversial documentary series Go Back To Where You Came From is going out in a big way. Rather than just simply showing it on telly, there will be a free public screening of the finale at Bella Union.

But even before the finale, there will be pre-screening entertainment with the bar opening at 6pm and a live SBS simulcast. Comedian Damian Callinan will kick off the evening with his character 9 year old Nathan Houlihan, then followed by Benjamin Solah, writer, poet and refugee activist performing spoken word poems telling the plight of refugees trying to seek asylum in Australia.

Even after viewers have seen how the racial tensions between the documentary’s protagonists has concluded, a post screening panel discussion with representatives from local asylum seeker organisations will discuss the never-ending debate on how to handle refugees and asylum seekers.

WHEN: Thursday 30 August, opens at 6:30pm, screening at 8pm
WHERE: Bella Union, corner Lygon Street & Victoria Parade, Carlton (enter via Lygon Street)
