TV Dinners

In 1891 when Oscar Wilde suggested that “life imitates art far more than art imitates life”, I doubt he could have foreseen the complex cross-fertilisation that takes place amongst media in 2012. These days, one might say that life imitates art, advertising, music, the internet and TV. All are inextricably linked in a chicken and egg type scenario; there is a circular relationship between cause and consequence.

TV Dinners is an exhibition which presents recent works by young British and Australian artists and art collectives exploring the ambiguous but flourishing dynamic between art, TV and the internet. The online and offline realms are blurred in the gallery spaces of BUS Projects through the replication of the home living environment. Visitors are encouraged to sit back, relax and even order in and eat takeaway food as part of the experience.

The exhibition offers a snapshot of an art world built not by institutions, but collaboratively by artists and users.

WHEN: 28 August – 15 September. Opening Tuesday 28 August, 6pm–8pm
WHERE: Bus Projects, Basement Level, Donkey Wheel House, 673 Bourke Street, Melbourne
