Cheers for Melbourne Day!

Are you aware Melbourne has a birthday? Probably not. If you want a little bit of trivia to impress people though, August the 30th was the day that the first settlers landed along the north bank of the Yarra River, where Williams Street and Flinders Street meet today.

It’s a date worth remembering in 2012 if only for one reason; this year we have “Cheers! for Melbourne day”. Essentially meaning cheap booze all across town. It depends where you land but there’s discount Veuve Clicquot, cheap sangria and $5 stubbies out there. It’s time to celebrate like it’s 1835.

WHEN: Thursday, 30 August
WHERE: Various bars and restaurants around Melbourne
