The Qatsi Trilogy, by Philip Glass and The Philip Glass Ensemble

Keen to break the rules of orthodox documentary filmmaking, and also wish to flout the traditions of classical music composition? Thank your Gods for the Arts Centre’s screening of the Qatsi Trilogy next week, where rebellion’s never seemed so avant-garde…

Legendary composer Philip Glass sweeps into Hamer Hall, to perform the groundbreaking scores he wrote for these three seminal films. Accompanied by the renowned Philip Glass Ensemble and performed against projections of director Godfrey Reggio’s trilogy, the screenings promise to be concert cinema at its most stirring.

The cult films are spectacular works in form: imagistic studies of the world, brought into conversation with Glass’s pioneering compositions. Their thematic orbit carries them through considerations of nature and the industrialised landscape, framed by thoughts on conflict in the modern world.

The three films are being screened on consecutive nights next week, at the Arts Centre’s Hamer Hall.

WHEN: Tuesday 31 July – Thursday 2 August, 8pm
