Ruth Rogers-Wright is a songstress who originally comes from Brixton in the UK. She has been living in Australia for around fifteen years now. Her unique take on jazz exhibits a “blend of curious pop, electronic beats spiced with classic soul and dub, spiralling like steps marching to (a) different universe.”

She has originated her own songs to reflect her contemporary relationship with music, and also pays tribute to the collective pool of jazz songstresses she takes inspiration from, like Nina Simone and Etta James.

Fresh off the back of big shows at the Melbourne Cabaret Festival, she will come to Gertrude Street to launch her new CD, The Book of Ruth. She will be supported by friends, DJ My~T~Jaxx and Salt Lake City, who will deliver some great tunes before Ruth hits the stage. The event will cost $10 at the door.

WHEN: Wednesday, 1 August, 7:30pm-late
WHERE: The Brown Couch, 30 Gertrude St, Fitzroy
