Castlemaine’s a classy kind of country town. Not only does it boast some beaut old buildings and more than its fair share of quality bookstores and pubs, it’s also home to the Theatre Royal, the oldest continually operating theatre on the Australian mainland.

The weekend the grand dame of cinema is hosting the inaugural Classic Film Festival, where six hand-picked celluloid gems like Riffifi, Cinema Paradiso and Howard’s End will be screening (many on 35mm) over three days.

So pull up a couch, crack open the popcorn and get those jaffas rolling for a true gold class experience.

WHEN: Friday 6 July – Sunday 8 July
