Heart of St Kilda

Every local knows that St Kilda’s Sacred Heart Mission is the real heartbeat of the suburb. Since 1982, the Mission has provided much-needed essentials such as food, accommodation and crisis care to those in the area who are living in poverty or homeless.

This week the Mission is holding their annaul fundraiser, the Heart of St Kilda concert. Like the back room of a vintage thrift store on Acland Street, there’s something at this event for everyone. Local artists such as Tim Rogers, Lawrence Mooney and Lanie Lane will be performing, while ex-Ferrets frontman Billy Miller will team up with Rebecca’s Empire frontwoman Rebecca Bernade.

In-between sets Cal Wilson and Australia’s favourite “unusualist” Raymond Crowe, will be performing a mixed bag of shadow play, mine and ventriloquism, while Brian Nankervis will be hosting.

The night is an opportunity to have a few drinks with mates, snap up some raffle prizes, and most importantly show your community spirit. All funds raised at the concert will go directly to the Mission’s vital services.

If you plan to have a big one you can even score a discounted room at the nearby Novotel, with standard rooms going for $169 for ticket holders.

The Heart of St Kilda is happening on Wednesday 18 July at the Palais Theatre, St Kilda
