The dandiest thing about animated films is that these days, pretty much anything goes. In the modern world of animation, dudes with genital problems, bad-ass bears, inappropriate uses for meat, inebriated puppets, creepy politicians and a ‘what’s what’ of weird sex are all equally legitimate subjects as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Yep, even the most whacky and taboo aspects of humanity and society seem approachable when delivered through a cleverly-crafted animation. Genius!

From the simple to the sophisticated, to the truly bizarre, Melbourne International Animation Festival offers a plethora of sensory pleasures and an opportunity to experience the artist’s hand in an immediate and visceral way. With films, forums and workshops, this is an eight-day showcase of the human capacity for imagination and innovation. Check your preconceptions at the door.
