Hey you! Yes, you! Sweep those asymmetrical bangs out of your eyes, hitch those jeans up an inch or three, push those thick, black rimmed glasses back up the bridge of your nose and pull up a chair. I have a story to share, and it is all about you.

Melbourne author Nicola Themistes has been industriously working on her debut novel Spectacle City for the last five years, and it has finally arrived. Spectacle City tells the tale of contemporary life in the city of Melbourne through the eyes of twenty-three year old Alexander Smokescreen, a reflective, affable guy on pursuit of the true meaning of existence. Smokescreen’s drug fuelled journey takes him through the streets of Melbourne during the 2005 Melbourne Cup long weekend as he searches for answers and a place to imbibe alcohol without being interrupted.

Spectacle City is being launched in June. This is no ordinary book launch. It’s also a dance party. Curl up those trouser cuffs, grab your messenger bag and get yourself a ticket to the coolest launch party in town.

WHEN: Friday 1 June, 7pm
WHERE: Schoolhouse Studios, 97 Nicholson Street, Abbotsford
WEB: spectaclecity.wordpress.com (tickets $5 or free with book purchase)
