The National Ballet of China and the National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra are playing five performances of Peony Paviilion, the famous Chinese love story that’s been compared to Romeo & Juliet. And it sounds lavish, to say the least. A full blown production that incorporates Western ballet with traditional Chinese dance plus costumes and sets that make Baz Luhrmann look conservative, this is one for lovers of dance, costume and spectacle.
