Say hello to Fable Melbourne. Perched along the city’s twinkling skyline is Fable, the Ancient Greece-inspired rooftop cocktail bar set to sizzle your summer season of partying, drinking and debauchery. Situated on the corner of Lonsdale and Russell Streets, Milk Bar was invited to check out the exclusive new venue one spring evening.

Much of Fable’s ethos harkens to the millennia-old mode of communication: storytelling. Before even the written word, tales of heroism, legend and moral quandary were uttered and embellished. These stories are weaved throughout Fable’s menu.

With a view unlike any other in Melbourne, the fit out is equally striking. Stylish, eclectic and modern, Fable is sophisticated; touches of emerald and plush brown seating and booths only heighten the luxe experience. It’s the type of venue that you need to be at during the magic of golden hour. The type where you can easily – and happily – spend hours catching up with friends or enjoying an intimate date.

Fable is the latest creation from Melbourne hospitality personality Gehan Rajapakse. Also on board is venue manager and notable mixologist Alessandro Nardini and Executive Chef Alex Xinis. The trio have seamlessly cultivated a venue with signature cocktails, unforgettable eats and breathtaking views.

‘A cocktail is more than just a drink to me. I like to consider elements beyond the physical ingredients, proposing a bit of history behind the drink and creating an experience for my guests. At Fable, storytelling is what we do,’ says Alessandro Nardini.

Among their exquisite cocktails are the Ambrosia (the Ancient Greek word for honey, nectar of the gods) and Hephaestus Craft (the blacksmith of the gods), and, of course, The Trojan Horse (soz Helen of Troy). Others playfully poke at memorable moments in European history: Ropespierre’s Faith is a spin on the classic Bloody Mary; Borgia’s Plot, a twist on the Singapore Sling; and the Elisir Lungavita is a refreshing Italian-inspired spritz of thyme, rosemary, lemon and grapefruit sherbet. Perfect for that sweltering summer’s day.

The menu options are sumptuous and satisfying. We highly recommend a serving of the white taramosalata dip; the grilled halloumi, blistered grapes, sherry vinegar and smoked almonds; and the beef tartare, egg yolk aioli, served with toasted light rye bread. You also cannot go past the Yarra Valley Trout caviar, buckwheat blini, sour cream and chives starter. All wins in our book!

Fable Melbourne offers Instagram-enthusiasts photo ops for days, so drag along your Boyfriend of Instagram, order an aesthetically pleasing drink to quench your thirst, and let the tale unfold. At Fable, your story starts here.
