MICF: Dazza and Keif Reenact the Romeo + Juliet Movie Playing All the Roles

Just when you thought Romeo and Juliet has been acted to death, its tale of star-crossed lovers in fair Verona reimagined ad nauseam, comes Dazza and Keif, Naarm’s sickest b-boyz, and their unhinged, hysterical and boisterously heartfelt show Dazza and Keif Reenact the Romeo + Juliet Movie Playing All the Roles

In what is a clear standout at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF), the show sees best mates Dazza and Keif pay homage to the greatest love story of all time, debasing its inherent hyper-masculinity and patriarchal tones and turning it into an amyl-sniffing farcical romp, but no homo.

Donning basketball singlets, Dazza and Keif sustain the high energy, clever comedy and physicality of the show throughout the fifty-minute-long show. The hilarity of the show is heightened through the existence of the inept yet eager-to-act cousin Jordan, dildos replacing the swordplay, and Dazza’s horny take on Juliet, a hot chick that delivers memorable lines such as: me dad says I’m not yet ripe but I reckon I’m heaps ripe

Dazza and Keif are just 2 best m8s whose take on Romeo and Juliet is as outrageous as it is comedy gold. Check them out at the Malthouse Theatre until Sunday 14 April.
