“Maybe Paris has a way of making people forget.”
“Paris? No. Not this city. It’s too real and too beautiful to ever let you forget anything.”

‘S wonderful, ‘S marvellous, ‘S paradise, the musical masterpiece An American in Paris makes its long-anticipated debut in our fine city at Arts Centre Melbourne. Hailed as a tour de force for its inventive choreography, The Australian Ballet and GWB Entertainment re-tell the enchanting and timeless love story of American GI Jerry Mulligan and the young Parisian dancer Lise Dassin.

Hailed a success in Brisbane, audiences can expect to be wowed by a sea of colour, gorgeous costumes, sharp suits and all the lavish accoutrements to re-create the most romantic city in the world. Starring theatre royalty Robbie Fairchild (Jerry Mulligan) and Leanne Cope (Lise Dassin), with two of the country’s leading lights Cameron Holmes and Dimity Azoury from The Australian Ballet, alternating in the lead roles. Rounding out the cast are gems Anne Wood (Madame Baurel), David Whitney (Monsieur Baurel), Ashleigh Rubenach (Milo Davenport), Jonathan Hickey (Adam Hochberg) and Sam Ward (Henri Baurel), plus a 33-strong ensemble of dancers, singers and actors.

The genius of George Gershwin’s powerful and joyful score is brought to life on stage through the iconic songs ‘I Got Rhythm’, ‘S Wonderful’, ‘But Not For Me’ and ‘They Can’t Take That Away From Me’.

The romantic chaos of An American in Paris is based on World War II veteran Jerry Mulligan, who moves to Paris to become a painter. Jerry is plucked by a well-connected heiress with (romantic) ideas of her own, but, ultimately, falls for an already-engaged Lise Dassin.

To celebrate, Milk Bar is giving away two FREE double passes to the performance on Friday 18 March. All you need to do is email ross@milkbarmag.com with the subject line ‘An American in Paris ticket giveaway’ and include your name, postal address and your favourite song of the musical.

Good luck!
