Melbourne International Comedy Festival: Ben Kochan’s I’m Done It

Comedian Ben Kochan’s latest show I’m Done It draws inspiration from the hijinks played out on a magic show he saw on TV. In town for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Sydney-based jokester pulled out his bag of tricks at Trades Hall and the audience lapped it up hook, line, and sinker.

Sporting a $3 suit purchased at an op shop, Kochan opened with his ‘moustache-on-moustache’ gag. Over the course of his in, out and done, 45-minute show, the audience learn more about the comedian through personal stories, hilarious dad jokes and some hit-and-miss use of props.

The hugely entertaining show is a tribute to Kochan’s ability to deliver a punchline with maximum gusto, and while a couple of the gags didn’t resonate with the audience, his skilled comedic energy enabled him to successfully pull out another rabbit from his bag.

Some highlights included getting to know the comedian’s Jewish heritage and childhood, his conversations with his parents whilst overseas – and the mind-boggling concept of time zones – and a dodgy hunt to find a speakeasy bar that placed him and his mates in some murky water.

Genuinely entertaining and hilarious, I’m Done It is a comedy standout in this year’s jam-packed program. Ben Kochan will be on stage till Sunday 18 April – don’t miss it!
