Receive an unexpected Christmas gift and now need to quickly procure a reciprocal gift that doesn’t look like it was bought at last minute? Look no further than Magnum + Queens’ flagship store in Coventry Street, South Melbourne. With over 700 hand-picked wines from Australia and around the world, this sommelier-curated experience is one to mull over.

Initially an online fine wine merchant, Magnum + Queens Wine have traded up to the traditional bricks and mortar setup. Since opening their doors in September, vino connoisseurs have gotten to know wines from all over the globe – from small, family-run and boutique wineries to the bigger labels known for quirky and natural wine types.

‘We are in such an exciting era for wine. Our store is very much a reflection of our online offering … We have a focus on new varieties, a range of old favourites like Burgundy and Pinot Noir, textural whites and food-friendly wines,’ says sommelier and co-founder Virginia Selleck.

Selleck and fellow co-founder Kirsten Dickie have put together a range of Christmas cocktail packs. Among the highlights is the Negroni Nights pack: Poor Tom’s Imbroglio, Del Professore Vermouth Rosso and The Apothecary Gin Triple Juniper (Killara Distillery).

Another is the London’s Calling – The Stellacello pack. Made up of Stellacello Pompelmo Liqueur and Amaro London, the company takes inspiration from Italian recipes and combines herbs, fruits and spices to produce something truly unique.

The store holds regular wine tastings and food pairing events or you can sign up to a nifty monthly wine subscription for packs of three, six or twelve wines.

Give someone special the gift of wine this silly season.
