Food and movies: they go together like lamb and tuna fish … or spaghetti and meatballs, perhaps you are more comfortable with that analogy. Outdated movie references aside,Gourmet Cinema Sponsored by Holden Equinox is back next week to pair your favourite cult classics on the big screen with some of Melbourne’s best restaurants and food trucks.
The program kicks off on Thursday with Jon Favreau’s brilliant Chef, suitably hosted by the wildly popular Mexican joint Hotel Jesus. Each film will be presented by one “hero” restaurant as well as four other restaurants because nothing will ever be good enough for you, will it?
Over the first two weekends in March, Gourmet Cinema will screen eight classics on their giant outdoor screen on the lawns of Caulfield Racecourse (fascinators not encouraged). Tickets aren’t much more than a standard movie ticket and if you all fancy you can pay a bit more and get yourself a choc top and deck chair.
If you feel like getting a bit of a buzz on, there’s also a happy hour between 6—7 every night with $10 cocktails, so get down early to secure a spot, stuff your face and wring out the last few days of summer because … winter is coming. I haven’t even seen Game Of Thrones, to be honest, I’ve heard it’s great and I’m sure it is, but I think at this point it’s too late for me to go back and watch it because I’ll be so far behind and it all just seems like a bit of a hassle.
