Sunset Cinema

As the sun sets on another year, Melbourne’s summer revelries heat up and it’s open season for outdoor cinemas.

Sunset Cinema’s much anticipated return to Gasworks Arts Park kicks off on Wednesday, 27 December. Prepare to be entertained by the hottest Hollywood films starting with Murder on the Orient Express – Johnny Depp and Judi Dench?! Say no more!

The epic program continues with the likes of Bad Moms 2 and Daddy’s Home 2 for those lingering Christmas comedy vibes; the classic awesomeness that is Dirty Dancing; and the more sobering (possibly tear-jerking) Goodbye Christopher Robin and Wonder.

Whatever you decide, you’ll be wanting some snacks by your side. Popcorn and treats will be readily on hand, but for that something a little more substantial, no outdoor event is complete without a few food trucks. La Revolucion is on hand to satiate your appetites with their Latin menu. Think Churrasco steaks, pulled beef tacos, corn on the cob and Argentinian chicken schnitzel sliders. Swallow that down with a 4 Pines craft beer or a Madfish wine and you are set.

To further extend its support to the local community, this year Sunset Cinema will be selecting three local charities and asking moviegoers to choose between them and help to raise money for a great cause with a grant being allocated to each charity at the end of the season. This season’s chosen charities are:

1. Backpacks 4 VIC Kids: Backpacks 4 VIC Kids supplies resources to children entering out-of-home care and emergency accommodation.

2. STREAT: As one of Australia’s leading hospitality social enterprises, STREAT helps disadvantaged and homeless young people by providing them with intensive wrap-around support, vocational training and real work experience.

3. Alkira: Alkira is a leader in the disability sector, delivering services for people with an intellectual disability to support them to lead rich, exciting and fulfilled lives.

Tickets are on sale now and an upgrade to a Lawn Lounge ticket will score you a reserved Peugeot bean lounger with popcorn and a drink. So pack a picnic and get yourself to the Sunset Cinema for a quintessential summer night’s entertainment!
