LANEWAY FEST GOES WEST
Another weekend, another summer festival. Summer’s great. This year Laneway’s going out west to Footscray. Dozens of acts including Fiest, Geoffrey O’Connor, and The Panics plus sideshows and vintage markets. It’s supposed to be a bigger space this year and people who paid for tickets won’t get turned back at the gate. If you do check out try 1+1 Dumplings and Hien Vuong Pasteur. They’re pho good.

STAR WARS AT SILVER K
Sci-fi fans will be heading over at warp speed to this one. Silver K Gallery is presenting the largest collection of Star Wars art ever displayed in Australia. Yes. Breathe. And if that’s not enough to get those lightsabre’s rattling there’s also a supplementary exhibition of superhero art to turn the geek-gauge up to 11. It’s going to be Force-some.

DR. WHO SYMPHONY
If Star Wars art isn’t enough, the good doctor comes to the MSO this Saturday with live monsters (well, Daleks) in this musical celebration of the long running BBC series. Conductor Ben Foster will be firing up the orchestra with music from the last two seasons of Dr. Who. Phone boxes optional.

CIDER FOR CIDER LOVERS
Sunday afternoon, sunny weather (actually, you never know), a rooftop in CBD, ice cold ciders. Old Mout is hosting its first Sunday session with the first bottle free, the second (and third, fourth etc) is half price. To sweeten the deal there’s going to be giant jenga, mini golf, and hopefully some normal sized activities as well.

MINKSKY’S MARKET
Baz Luhrmann’s got a lot to answer for, depending on your point of view the rise of burlesque joints popping up quicker than Pie Face’s might be one of them. This weekend Minsky’s Market is having it’s monthly market of all things burlesque, they’ll be corsets, fans and frilly bits, plus local design house Fantantique will be selling their full range of cosmetics and vintage fashion at discounted prices. The Moulin Rouge soundtrack will possibly be on loop.

I OH YOU parties started when four flatmates had an unpaid gas bill and were desperate to impress girls. As unpromising as it sounds, they’ve been throwing helluva neat parties since 2009.
