Full Moon Fever at Lulie Tavern

Giddy up cowboys! There’s a new ‘watering’ hole in town…well, rooftop!

Say howdy to Melbourne’s newest rootin ‘n’ tootin rooftop playground - Full Moon Fever. Set atop of Abbotsford’s favourite country western saloon Lulie Tavern, Full Moon Fever is a mecca for those who enjoy good times and good vibes. Yeehaw!

Having opened just in time for summer, Full Moon Fever is serving sun, stone and succulents. Think of a laidback, rooftop saloon akin to a dessert bar in California’s Joshua Tree National Park. Successful as ever, Lulie Tavern was a passion project crafted by best friends and business partners - and Melbourne’s coolest dudes - Jon-Lee Farrell and Brendan Kennedy. Relocating from its original location on Lulie Street in 2018, its new home is a refurbished 1960s bank located in the heart of iconic Johnston Street. Lulie Tavern boasts itself as the home of that old time rock n roll - a place to drink heartily and chow down on burgers, to make friends with the bartenders and party like it’s 1969 - and boy is this accurate!

Suitably named after the 1989 Tom Petty album, Full Moon Fever is already a favourite. With a retractable roof, a fireplace (featuring camp lounges), and plenty of sun booths, it’s perfect for the very best (and worst) of what Melbourne’s weather has to offer. Beams and bricks from the former factory’s original roof have been repurposed, and the space oozes the laid back, rock ‘n’ roll, memorabilia-filled aesthetic counterpart to downstairs Lulie. You can expect the liveliest of spots for after work bevs, weekend vibes and everything else!

“We didn’t want it to be an empty not-thought-about rooftop deck that had been tacked on. Outside is an extension of inside,” says Brendan Kennedy. Drawn like a moth to a flame, the old school neon Full Moon Fever sign is a beacon which welcomes one and all. You simply won’t be disappointed. The menu is a take on roadhouses and outback saloons, with over eight mouth-watering burgers available, including TJs Famous Whopper (you’ll thank me later), and don’t you dare forget the Buffalo wings!

Feelin’ thirsty too? Full Moon Fever has got you covered. Featuring an extensive list of beer, wine, cider and seltzer, there’s something for everybody. For cocktails with themes on point, you must try Tommy’s Margarita as well as Meg’s Gin Fizzzz.

So, like a rhinestone cowboy, ride that horse on over to Melbourne’s hottest new rooftop Full Moon Fever.
