Kicking off this April, the Moro Spanish Film Festival returns to selected Palace Cinemas to bring cinephiles some reel inspiración from 34 films to choose from. Acting legends Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas Oscar Martinez and Natalie Morales are back, bolder, more beautiful and more sensational than ever. Milk Bar is here to cherry-pick some of the must-watch films.

The opening night darling Official Competition is a much-anticipated satire that unveils all the behind-the-scenes chaos of filmmaking. The hilarious comedy features a slew of stars – Cruz, Banderas, Martinez – and follows one octogenarian tycoon’s pursuit to create the very best movie made. Absurd, delightful, enthralling and entrancing – this is one movie not to be missed!

Next up: Language Lessons. Directed by Natalie Morales, and written in collaboration with co-star Mark Duplass, the award-winning comedy is a charming, sweet and hopeful story that explores the relationship between a Spanish teacher and her apprentice. The film is a case of two unlikely strangers meeting who then embark on a heartfelt journey to explore the meaning of human connection and friendship.

Picking up several Goya Awards in 2022 is Maxibel. The slow-burn political drama features a stand-out performance from Blanca Portillo, who plays the eponymous character, and the courageous steps she took to confront the terrorists responsible for murdering her husband.

Put your hands up if you’re obsessed with the energy power couple Javier Bardem and Penélope? The Spanish Film Festival will pay homage to the acting legends by screening their iconic flicks, Jamón Jamón, celebrating its 30th anniversaryLoving Pablo as well as Cruz’s much-acclaimed Parallel Mothers

The Melbourne leg of the festival opens from 21 April to 15 May at The Astor Theatre, Como Cinema, Palace Brighton Bay, Palace Westgarth, The Kino, Palace Balwyn and Pentridge Cinema.

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
