Font Fine Wine

This is a PSA announcement: don’t drink on an empty stomach. And no matter how seductive the wine is with its crisp and silky texture, put your phone away, because the wine will do all the talking. Sometimes, well, most times, the vino is just too good to refuse, and it’s bye bye sobriety. That wine is Font Fine Wine and their premium range of labels.

Font Fine Wine is an Australian start-up that specialises in wines on tap. The crew have named five distinct stand-alone wine brands that you can enjoy at various eateries and bars around Melbourne. One venue is the delightful and lively Ripponlea Food and Wine for those playing at home.

‘We are moving into an exciting new phase at Font. More and more venues are starting to embrace the benefits of wine on tap and [more] importantly [,] celebrate and promote the quality of our wine to their customers,’ says Font founder Connor Fitzgerald.

Connor adds: ‘We discovered that some patrons were finding it hard to connect to a wine that didn’t have its own name. There was a small misconception that these were lower tier, or cleanskin wines because of the united branding on the taps.’

The five labels we tried include: Motte & Bailey, a Pinot Grigio from King Valley; Lady Augusta (the fairest of them all) a Sauvignon Blanc hailing from South East Australia; All Day Rosé (yes pls!) from Riverina; Separation Tree, a Victorian Pinot Noir; and a Heathcote Shiraz called The Major.

You may have tried Espresso martinis on tap but be assured the Font five are the real McCoy. The beautifully pale pink All Day Rosé has hints of citrus and strawberry while the Separation Tree Pinot Noir is flavoursome, bold and has notes of spice and cherry. Another favourite is the Motte & Bailey. This delicious drop has a creamy finish and you will be able to recognise citrus and pear flavour as it swirls from the glass to your mouth.

Keep an eye on the fine five and get around wine on tap – Font Fine Wine have done an exceptional job in crafting something local and unique.
