Summer has come and gone, and Mother Nature has been busy applying Autumn’s palette. So before the days turn cold and grey, step into the colourful wonderland of the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show.

An end-of-March staple, the show kicks off this Wednesday, 27 March and runs till Sunday, 31 March at the Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens. Now in its 24th year, the show has a new charity partner in Beyond Blue. Visitors can expect gardens that are not only visually arresting, but are emotionally stirring as they tap into the sense of tranquillity and wellbeing that comes from connecting with nature.

All the show staples are there, but 2019 is also unveiling a line-up of exciting new features for event. Mark Browning will debut his tactile Welcome Garden where a host of expert talks will be held throughout the show. The focal point of this interactive garden will be show-stopping ring lock curtains by Kaynemail – an architectural, award-winning mesh created by Lord of the Rings Weapon Designer.

As a testament to the Show’s international appeal, Tokyo Ichiyo Ikebana Floristry School will be flying over headmaster Naohiro Kasuya to showcase a spectacular Ikebana installation, recognising the ancient floral art of Japan.

For anyone seeking a refined day out at the show, the ticketed The Holland America Line High Tea is a must. Nestled in the amongst a Wonka-inspired installation, diners will have the exclusive experience of sipping bubbles and savouring flower-inspired petit fours.

For one night only, Friday 29 March, city workers are encouraged to dodge the peak-hour traffic and explore the show under the stars with an evening of craft beers, Prosecco, wine and gourmet catering. Gardens by Twilight runs until 9pm and visitors can witness Carlton Gardens under a whole new light with a backdrop of live music and roving entertainment.

So marvel at the sculptures, make your own Kokedama or take home a sprightly bunch for your kitchen table. Whatever your interests, there is something for everyone at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.
