Mamasita takes over Barwon Heads

Does the working week feel like a drag? Probably nothing would eclipse ditching the mid-morning meeting for a Mezcal Margarita or Mojito on a pristine beach. Hey, even Mamasita understands. For one day only, the popular Mexican eatery is fleeing the hustle and bustle of the CBD for the calm shores of Barwon Heads and taking over At The Heads restaurant.

The Mamasita team will treat diners to a smorgasbord of Mexican delights on Friday, 11 January from 11.30am. Drop by and select either the set menu or bar menu options. Inspired by their beloved menu, expect to scan your eye over the likes of shellfish ceviche tostaditas with ‘Acapulco’ coctel sauce, or mole dojo pork neck with smoked crema, almonds and ancho, and for dessert, sopapilla Mexican cheesecake, mango mezcal coulis and ice-cream.

If you’re only passing through, perhaps the bar menu options will appeal most. How nice does a serving of esquites corn cups with chipotle mayo, queso and lime sound? Or crispy fried whitebait, valentina mayo and pickle? But it is Mamasita’s arguably most-famous dish that will see crowds clamour in anticipation. The team will be serving fried fish tacos with cabbage, jalapeño, radish and mayo all day long. Wash it all down with a variety of cocktails, beers or local wines. Then repeat.

Mamasita is taking over the coast for one day only and now I’m tempted to hit ‘Maybe’ instead of ‘Accepted’ to my Friday morning meeting. Head down to Barwon – it will be a cracker of a day!
