Fleur and Alexandra are out of this world

Fleur and Alexandra are out of this world introduces the audience to an all-star character line-up including Gaia the personification of Earth, Pluto the Dog, and of course a puppet of … Uranus.

When a performance has “Warning: contains puppet nudity” outlined within its synopsis, one naturally becomes excited, right? The premise of the show itself is based on the journey of two space heroines employed by the sun to collect solar usage records and planetary taxes. The Sun notifies Fleur and Alexandra at the beginning of the performance that the world turtle is missing and that they are responsible to recover it before the earth drops out of orbit and inflicts total chaos. The absurdist, nonsensical world of Fleur and Alexandra certainly is, as the name provides, “out of this world”.

Alexandra Fraser and Fleur Blum, the writers and performers of the show, first collaborated on stage in their 2016 Melbourne Fringe Festival Show, Fleur and Alexandra Save the World. Alexandra has been a part of six previous Fringe shows and in her spare time enjoys expressing herself creatively through photography. Fleur has been a part of the festival once before and has spent much of the last six years creating a bo-ho empire including: fiction and life writing, erotica, poetry as well as blogging. On stage together, the two’s quirky camaraderie is seen throughout the performance.

Although Fleur and Alexandra proclaim that This production is lo-fi-sci-fi or, in Earth lay persons’ terms, low budget,” the creativity of the two explodes on stage with a fully ‘functioning’ cardboard space shuttle, personifying puppet planets (including genitalia), large random (to say the least) objects which will serve as puzzle pieces in solving the challenge that lies before them.

SPOILER ALERT: an oversized Comedone Extractor may or may not be used to pop an astronomically sized zit.

“In an attempt to distract ourselves from the realities of life as we know it, Fleur and Alexandra want to make you laugh; at us usually. To justify the time and effort we put into the show we want to inflict… uh, perform our creation for the wider public.”
