Melbourne Food and Wine Festival (MFWF), is back for 2018. Now in its 26th year, the annual festival celebrates our world-class food and wine culture, with events spanning across the state. MFWF attracts 250,000 attendees with 200+ events, held throughout March. Get ready to eat, drink and explore the best of what our gastronomy scene has to offer. Here are some events to bookmark right now.

Laneway Crawl

Our laneways the hip, gems that they are, will all be for show on this culinary crawl. Taste your way through Asian (Lucy Liu Kitchen and Bar), Peruvian (Pastuso) and Spanish (Movida Next Door) cuisines while you peruse through a few iconic alleyways including Hosier, Oliver and ACDC. Don’t forget to admire some of the interesting graffiti while you’re at it.

World’s Longest Lunch

If you’ve got time to graze, this leisurely lunch is for you. For the first time in MFWF’s history, the event will be heading out of the CBD and into the west, on the banks of the Maribyrnong River. The 500-metre long table is set for 1,700 diners, with three courses on the menu. Lunch will be prepared by leading chefs including Adam D’Sylva (Tonka, Coda) and Jerry Mai (Annam, Pho Nom), where guests will be treated to tastes of South-east Asia and Italy. To wrap up, dessert will be served by Pastry Chef, Kay-Lene Tan (Tonka, Coda). Book Here

Eat Your Words by Le Cordon Bleu

Love to write about food? At this intensive two-day workshop aspiring food writers will learn about the craft of food writing and be mentored by expert food and travel journalist, Justin Bergman. Students will have the opportunity to attend, then write about MFWF events, submit work and get feedback from experienced editors on their progress.This immersive experience also allows students to meet industry pros including chefs, winemakers and the former editor of Lucky Peach Magazine, Chris Ying.

Chronicles of Cheese

Books and cheese are the new combination at this event. For under $40 you can spend an evening with like-minded bookworms and cheese lovers at Sam Merrrifield Library. It’s almost impossible not to have some wine on the side, so there will be some for your enjoyment. Olivia Sutton from Harper and Blohm cheese shop will include four cheeses to complement the rest of the evening.

International Chef Dinners

Eat some extraordinary food prepared by some culinary stars from around the world. There are eight international chef dinners to choose from including those led by Michelin-starred chef, Shinobu Namae (L’Effervescence) and acclaimed chef, Ben Shewry (Attica) in collaboration with chef, Matt Orlando (Amass). These exclusive dinners include five courses paired with drinks, and held at the House of Food & Wine Hotel, which the Hotel Lindrum has been especially transformed for.
