Worth the Long Shot

Just opposite the newly minted Bar Nacional lies Long Shot, a new cafe where pastry wizard Jo Barrett and dessert extraordinaire Shaun Quade have created an array of bakery delights that cater for all tastes and time constraints without compromising on quality.

Breakfast can be eaten on the run, and might be a Prune & Bacon Brioche ($5) seasoned with thyme & activated hazelnuts that doesn’t leave grease on your fingers. The gluten free among us will enjoy Long Shot’s homemade muesli ($12.50) which contains everything from polenta chips, roasted cacao nibs, activated nuts, puffed corn and rice to dried white mulberry, freeze dried blueberries and dehydrated bananas. Prices are reasonable considering the quality of the produce, the Cassoulet (merguez sausage with cooked egg and persillade, $17) is the most you will pay.

And let’s not forget the coffee. Barista Joshua Willis (ex-Proud Mary) presides over a range of espressos, filtered drips and organic teas. And Sweet-tooths might find the elixir of life in the Brown Butter flavoured milk.

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
