Are you a fan of darts, but the standard pub aromas, pool tables and sticky floors aren’t your forte? Prefer to fine dine with a well crafted cocktail and decadent canapés? Oche is the bar you’ve been waiting for.
After grand success in Norway, The Netherlands, The UK and Sweden, Oche (pronounced oc-key) blends interactive game play with innovative fine dining. Freshly perched on the corner of Elizabeth and Lonsdale St, replacing the iconic Michael’s building, Oche launched on November 17th by welcoming patrons with a complimentary glass of champagne. While a welcomed glass of bubbly may have been expected for a bar opening, it was a startling surprise to learn that every top-up and high-end cocktail was on the house and every private dart booth - a whopping twenty-two in total - came with its own private server.
Twenty-two booths may sound crowded, but the bar’s multi-story layout gives patrons the breathing space to enjoy their game play comfortably. The Tasmanian Oak furnishings, marble bench-tops, and ceilings shrouded in rich foliage give Oche a warm, welcoming atmosphere as you expose your competitive side to your friends, dates or co-workers. Each booth is equipped with cornered off sofas big enough to fit 12 players, an interactive screen that connects to the dart board and records your score - eliminating the awkward tallying that would likely get more difficult as the night goes on. As mentioned, each group is allocated their own server that frequently checks in, tops up your champers and offers the finest cheese boards and canapés we’ve tried in some time. If the game-play isn’t enough, the gin-cured smoked salmon cones with kohlrabi and liquorice remoulade is an eye-watering treat that will surely bring you back time and time again.
It is not just your standard champagne and wine on offer at the bar also. Award-winning mixologist Adam MacDonald has curated a number of impressive cocktails for Oche. The Thin Red Line was a popular order on the night, a bourbon cocktail with a red wine float as a palate cleanser; an Appletini with a twist of white chocolate foam on top; and a refreshing take on the OG Pornstar Martini, with a side of fizz.
Oche is the perfect blend of fancy vs fun. It can cater to any event - a quiet drink, afterwork wind-downs, a first date that trumps your standard dinner and drinks, and it would perfectly accommodate any kind of celebration. Word will no doubt spread, that Oche is soon to be the new hot spot in town, and we genuinely can’t wait to be back.
