Royal Stacks knows how to throw a party

The team over at Royal Stacks love a birthday party – particularly themed birthday parties. So it’s only logical that they would throw a ‘Coming to America’ themed birthday party for their fourth birthday celebration, right? Yes, as in the 1988 comedy film starring Eddie Murphy. What may seem like a pretty left-field theme to some seemed like an obvious choice for owner Danny Zeini, who has always been a big fan of the cult-classic film.

Taking the theme very seriously, Royal Stacks on Collins Street was transformed into ‘McDowells’ – staff uniforms included. They set up a replica barbershop with Evan from Rock It Barbershop giving haircuts all night and Randy Watson Sexual Chocolate Shakes and McDowells burgers were being served all round.

After successfully running popular Melbourne restaurant The Dandenong Pavilion, owner Danny Zeini decided to bring American-style burgers to the streets of Melbourne. Zeini opened the first Royal Stacks store on Collins Street in 2016 and opened stores in Chadstone, Brunswick and Chongqing in China.

Royal Stacks pride themselves on using beef sourced from rural Australia that is GMO and hormone free, and minced fresh daily. The burgers themselves are decadent stacks piled high with delicious homemade sauces. Our pick for the beef burgers is ‘The King’: beef patty, tomato, lettuce, a mac and cheese croquette, mustard and special burger sauce. There are also vego options: the ‘Queen Bee’ or the vegan ‘Regina George’.

Obviously you’ll need a potato-y side to go with your burger – you can choose from fries or gems (both of which can come with a decadent but oh-so-necessary cheesy sauce).

Keeping with the American theme, Royal Stacks’s milkshake game is strong. Where things really get shaken up is with their frozen custard concretes! Choose from frozen custard flavours like Nutella, cheesecake or salted caramel and then add in your favourite chocolate-y mix-ins such as Oreo, Crunchie, Mars or M&Ms and you’ve got everything you wish a McFlurry could be and more!

If you haven’t been to Royal Stacks yet (or even if you have), head down to one of their three Melbourne stores for your next burger fix.
