Man’s slobbery, less sophisticated best friend has had its day, so look out Melbourne – the cats are out of the bag and the claws are coming out!
The inaugural Melbourne Cat Lovers Show is pouncing on the Royal Exhibition Building on Saturday (or should we say Caturday), 8 and Sunday, 9 September 2018. With ever-increasing apartment buildings dotting the Melbourne skyline, it comes as no surprise that animal lovers are looking to the feline community for a furry companion. Cats are largely independent creatures, but ones who also have no shortage of affection for their owners. Just remember, the Egyptians worshipped them as gods and this is something they’ve never forgotten!
What is admirable about these festivals is their strong focus on animal welfare and dedication to championing the message: Adopt, Don’t Shop. “One of the main objectives of the show is to raise awareness for cat rescue and work closely with shelters across Australia to drive adoptions whilst educating people about responsible and committed cat ownership,” says Cat Lovers Show creator, Jason Humphris.

Our top three recommendations include: the Purrfect Match Zone, where you can complete an interactive questionnaire to help suss out which feline is your purr-fect match; the Breed Showcase where you can meet and learn about different breeds and understand their lifestyle requirements, temperament and characteristics; and the Cat Adoption Zone, where exhibitors participating will bring dozens of cats who are looking for their new homes.
Already a loving parent to precious kitties? There is still plenty to enjoy! The Royal Canin Stage brings you the likes of Dr Harry Cooper and Dr Katrina Warren along with a host of behaviour experts, trainers and wild cat conservationists to present eduCATional talks. Grab a selfie with some of Instagram’s most famous felines at the Insta-Kitty feature. And since beloved fuzzballs can’t actually attend, be sure to check out the 120+ exhibitors and pick out a treat from the new product launches and exclusive show specials.
Witness some claw-some feats at the Cat Colosseum. From skateboarding felines to talented jumping cats, the Cat Colosseum will feature demonstrations that showcase cats at their best and most entertaining. If you want some cuddle time, The Pat-A-Cat Zone is the perfect place for you. It would be a cat-astrophe to miss!
