Melbourne International Jazz Festival Summer Sessions

Nothing says jazz bars like dark city alleyways, so Melbourne is the perfect place for a jazz festival. So lo and behold, we have the Melbourne International Jazz Festival Summer Sessions. With both Australian and international acts performing their music, music truly is an international language.
With renowned Australian jazz group the Vince Jones Quartet kicking things off on the first weekend of the festival at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club, things will get even more mixed up the following weekend. Fellow Aussie jazz act Swooping Duck will perform a completely improvised set of tunes in the Shebeen Bandroom on Thursday January 14th. After that, jazz fans can hear a eclectic mix of Australian and Ethiopian jazz music by Hailu Mergia with Tony Buck and Mike Majkowski.
On the closing weekend of the festival, on Saturday fans can hear Zac Hurran and Julien Wilson’s tribute to the late Australian saxophonist David Ades at their show A Life In A Day. On Sunday, the last event for the festival will have Japanese duo Satoko Fujii play with French duo Kaze, the blending of two very different cultures and musical styles.
So if you’re a jazz enthusiast in Melbourne, you’d be a fool to miss out on hearing all the soulful tunes being played in your city.
