Boozy Snow Cones At La Condesa

Every so often, a combination of flavours that shouldn’t necessarily be paired together just seems to work. And so it was with La Condesa’s new addition to their lively Mexican fare in the form of icy raspados or self-titled Boozy Snow Cones.
The casual invitation to try the three punchy flavours could not have come on a better day, with the muggy heat temporarily warded off by the slushy-style cocktails.
First stop: strawberry and jalapeno, a hit of summer berries packed with a punchy finish in the form of the spicy chili pepper. The initial strength of the tequila was quickly evened out as the ice set in and the vibrant pink colour seeped through. A more subtle option was the pineapple and coriander, which, after starting out with the sweet and spicy, was a more subtle break for the tastebuds. For the less daring, this was definitely the go-to.
As with all good things in life, the best was saved for last in the final flavour: Horchata. The most aesthetically pleasing of the trio, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and garnished with shredded coconut, the reposado tequila was complimented by smooth tastes of milky vanilla and cinnamon without being too upsetting for the stomach.
At $10 each for a tastefully strong cocktail and not forgetting the fun factor of a slushie, the ‘Boozy Snow Cones’ encompassed bang for your buck. Even better when consumed in the sun-bathed backyard Taqueria with a couple of tacos in a loving nod to a happy Mexican verano (summer).
