The Emerging Writers’ Festival

The Emerging Writers’ Festival is back for another year of unconventional, playful events set to satisfy the inner logophile.
Over ten days in Melbourne’s CBD, the EWF is geared towards creatives, freelancers, academics, industry professionals or simply curious thinkers, offering a feast of likeminded speakers that are currently turning heads in the world of words.
The program boasts a spectrum of launches, networking events, panels, performances and workshops. There’s a zine dance party, a panel conducted in utter darkness and poetry performed in chapels, as well as all the regular favourites with workshops and Q&As on various facets of craft and industry..
The festival is punctuated by one Saturday-Sunday centerpiece, The National Writers Conference, where a tight string of conversations and panels will tackle contemporary writing issues in an intimate setting, including a “5 x 5 Rules of Writing” advice-giving session with the Festival Ambassadors.
This year’s ambassadors will include the likes of Hannah Kent (Burial Rights), Benjamin Law (The Family Law, Gaysia) and Krissy Kneen (Affection: A Memoir of Love, Sex & Intimacy),. There is also an extensive list of featured writers covering the quirky to commercial, and back again.
The EWF is set to be a stage where creativity comes first and new talent is pushed to the fore. Even if you’re too late to register for any events, the venue hub at Thousand Pound Bend will be going late into the night.
