Food Love with Queenie’s

Most Masterchef contestants are quick to harness their rapid rise to fame and channel it towards their passion – a position alongside a famous chef, a restaurant, a cookbook, a cooking show, the usual.

Andrew Prior, a 2013 contestant forced to retire from stress fractures in both knees, has decided to buck the trend. With his start-up venture, Queenie’s Food Tours, Andrew is showing people what food means to him by literally taking them by the hand and showing them where to find it.

Andrew’s tours are about exploring food love through interaction. You get to meet the chefs and taste their creations, you’re shown through the kitchens, you talk with other foodies, you take some treats home, and the food love is infectious. From bus tours to walking tours, dessert to French-themed, city tours, regional trips and even an international excursion on the cards, Queenie’s covers all the bases.

At the moment, tickets are available for his Sweet Dreams Tour ($75) where you visit seven of South Yarra’s most exquisite sugar masters, with tastings at four stops and two take-home treats leaving you with a satisfying sugar coma. You have the opportunity to buy more at every stop, and Andrew’s ease of conversation makes for a casual and entertaining three hours.

As more tours become available in coming months a Queenie’s gift voucher may be the perfect indulgence for the person that has it all (with 10% donated to the Philippines appeal), or even as a gift to yourself – why not? Either way, keep your eyes on the website to see what’s next in store.
