Let’s face it, pop up restaurants and Mexican cuisine are no longer on the cusp of Melbourne’s culinary edge. But what about when you combine the with street art, tequila and Latin tunes in one of Melbourne’s iconic laneways? You get the Las Laneway Fiesta.

Organised by kids from the Si Señor Group with the intention of bring a little bit of Mexico’s underground to Melbourne, the fiesta will feature a rotating roster of some of Australia’s most established and up-and-coming artists.

Running across four weekends in April and May at Gallery ONE THREE, each weekend will offer up something a little different to the last. Patrons of this week’s opening night will be treated to street artist Theo Robinson creating a graffiti installation live on the night.

The flavours of Mexico’s street food will also be on offer, with ex-Mamasita chef Guillermo Ortiz in charge of the kitchen. And of course, it wouldn’t be a fiesta without tequila, mezcal and music.

The opening night this Friday will also feature the launch of the new Melbourne Books publication the Laneways of Melbourne, the latest installation in their Portraits of Victoria series. And you could be some of the first who get a chance to view some of these portraits,a with projectionist Nick Azidis of PROJECTION TEKNIK recreating some of the book’s images on the walls of the laneway outside the gallery.

The party begins this Friday from 6pm at Gallery ONE THREE, 13 Somerset Place, and continues every Friday and Saturday night until May 18.
