Melbournalia – catch it if you can

Haven’t started any of your Christmas shopping and getting worried about finding that unique gift with designer cred? Fret not - all of this can be found at Melbournalia, a pop-up gift store celebrating all fine things our city has to offer, back for a second year at the Queen Victoria Market.

It can be hard to do justice to all that Melbourne’s shopping culture embodies, but Melbournalia has given it a good shot, offering a look at the latest creative designer offerings in an innovative retail space.

According to those involved, the concept encapsulates “laneways, design, quality souvenirs, shopping, events, icons, stories, hipsters and all the other things Melbourne does best.”

The pop-up store combines creativity and a point of difference, appealing to people who may seek a unique kind of shopping experience. The store houses the wares of Melbourne-based designers, including jewellers, furniture makers, artists and authors in one beautiful, historic space adding another dimension to the Queen Victoria Market.

Melbournalia also holds events on Wednesday on a weekly basis. This week’s offering is a screening of an ode to Melbourne Melbhattan by Oslo Davis, redrawing the Manhattan skyline as if it were Melbourne. Everyone’s always wanted to be transported to another space when shopping. At Melbournalia, anything goes.
