Pia Murphy at Chapter House Lane

“Woolgather” seems to be an odd choice of name for a ceramics exhibition, but Pia Murphy is unfazed by that, as she is by the uncertainty of the firing process in her chosen medium. In fact, she seems drawn to excitement of not knowing what her finished products will look like. Before her ceramics sculptures, she worked as a printmaker, another medium where the end product cannot be completely controlled.

Displaying works from 2011 and 2012, her exhibition reflects the dreamy quality of its title, with anything from a pig producing sausages from its intestines to life-like animals straight from National Geographic.

Woolgather opens on Thursday 3 May from 6-8pm with drinks at Chapter House Lane, located off Flinders Lane.
