Celebrating its 10th year, the Cunard British Film Festival 2022 offers cinemagoers a delightful array of acclaimed British dramas, heartfelt comedies, and exclusive documentaries, some of which are making their Australian premiere. At select Palace Cinemas until Sunday 16 November, the festival features British acting royalty, with films starring Stephen Fears, Sally Hawkins, Emma Thompson, Bill Nighy, James Purefoy, Olivia Colman and Lesley Melville. Here is Milk Bar’s festival highlights.

What is the movie version of lying on a couch, snuggled up, listening to some uplifting melodies with a wine? Fisherman’s Friends 2: One and All is a charming comedy absolutely full of heart set in the picturesque Port Isaac, Cornall. As a sequel of the 2019 smash hit Fisherman’s Friends, the story picks up where we left off with the sea shanty singing group grappling with fame, success, love, a Universal Music deal, and performing at Glastonbury Festival. ‘Santiana’ and ‘Wellerman’ are two songs you should add to your Spotify playlist.

Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris is the feel-good, whimsical romantic drama that follows the eponymous character’s quest to purchase a Christian Dior dress. Lesley Melville is a treasure playing the highs and lows of the journey, supported by an able and charming ensemble cast, including Isabelle Huppert, Jason Isaacs, Lambert Wilson, Alba Baptista and Lucas Bravo.

Do you remember the news of the discovery of King Richard III’s remains beneath a Leicester car park 10 years ago? Starring Sally Hawkins and Steve Coogan, The Lost King retraces the steps of amateur historian Philippa Langley who found the bones of the infamous monarch, despite the scoffs and dismissal of scholars and academics. The witty drama is one not to miss.

For doco lovers, Quintessentially British explores the question all things British, from historic castles and figures to iconic music generations have come to love. Think Buckingham Palace, Sir Ian McKellen, quirky traditions, self-deprecating humour, historic castles and the origins of Alice in Wonderland.

Bond. James Bond. Vintage Bond is back on the big screen, showcasing 60 years of iconic style, adventure and martinis. The iconic retrospective includes classics as Sean Connery’s Dr. NoFrom Russia with LoveGoldfingerYou Only Live Twice, Roger Moore’s The Man With the Golden Gun, Timothy Dalton’s Licence to Kill, Pierce Brosnan’s GoldenEye and Daniel Craig’s Casino Royale and Skyfall, also starring Dame Judi Dench.

To celebrate the Cunard British Film Festival, Milk Bar is giving away five FREE double passes. To enter, please email ross@milkbarmag.com with the subject line ‘Cunard British Film Festival ticket giveaway’ and provide your name, postal address and the movie you wish to see.
