FS8 Southbank

Spring into action this September at FS8, the newest exercise fad taking Melbourne fitness legends by storm. Combining the best elements of reformer Pilates, tone and yoga in a F45-inspired workout style, the classes will sculpt, lean and strengthen those bods just in time for #hotgirlsummer. Milk Bar was fortunate to experience the fitness studio and power through some classes.

F45’s new concept FS8’s unique value proposition is that it offers a complete, full-body training experience – with none of the fluff. A typical workout combines Pilates reformer with mat work, dumb bells, activation bands and core sliders. Personal trainers, usually no more than two, are on hand to guide the class, and TVs are in front of workout stations featuring models emulating proper form, technique and movement.

All in all, the structure of a FS8 class is what fitness buffs and newbies may expect at any studio, but the experience is truly unique. Each class was enrichening, satisfying and enjoyable. The group fitness studios encourage community connection and a no-dickhead policy, which make for a safe space for novices to focus on improving their skill. The range of workouts is huge – with over 30 workouts and 3000 exercises on offer – meaning that every class is altered.

I must confess, I had never tried reformer Pilates before. I was a little shaky and a little nervous that I would a) break the machine b) break myself, and c) break the machine and myself. My first class was Byron Light and was a 50-minute high-vibe, high-intensity workout with cardio and Pilates. My trepidation was put to rest because the friendly instructors were attentive and helped build my confidence. Flow Rider would be my favourite class on offer because the group moves from reformer to the dumb bell work then core exercises. Let’s activate those abs and obliques!

FS8’s variety of exercises aim to enhance muscular strength, endurance, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and recovery. There are different membership options available, including a single session ($35), a 1-week casual pass ($89.95), 1/2/3 sessions per week memberships and 10 or 20 session packs.

For Pilates enthusiasts and those wanting to mix-up their fitness regime, head down to FS8 and get sweating!

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
