Theodore’s

Tucked away in the backstreets of Brunswick, just behind Sydney Road, Theodore’s is a gem just waiting to be discovered. Theodore’s – or Teddy’s as the owners affectionately call it – is a family run ‘mixed business’ that dishes up snacks and refreshments with a focus on sustainability and friendly service.

Open for just a few months, Theodore’s describes themselves as ‘not quite a cafe, not quite a bar but definitely everything in between’. The stunning industrial-style space, once an old fishmonger’s warehouse, features painted brick walls, soft lighting and wooden panelled booths that help create an ambient atmosphere both during the day and into the early evenings.

The menu includes an eclectic mix of tasty treats and is 80 per cent plant-based. All food and drinks are local, seasonal and responsibly sourced. Standouts include the ‘buffet’ brunch, featuring a selection of items on the menu depending on what your party might like or pancakes if there are kids at the table. The incredible pretzel sandwich with fried egg, hash brown, chipotle and cheese is definitely one not to be missed.

The dinner-time menu comprises a rotating selection of three nutritious and quick meals, designed as a healthy alternative to home delivery or to be served up straight away. BYO take away containers are encouraged. Local beers and wines, and cocktails such as mimosa on tap and coffee tonic (gin, espresso, tonic, agave and lemon) complement the snack bar menu perfectly.

Theodore’s also hosts events such as Afternoon Wine Club and Spring Fling, where you can enjoy a seasonal five-course dinner paired with five wines, hosted by the winemakers themselves.

With simple yet delicious meals, extraordinary customer service and a striking setting, Theodore’s will soon become your new favourite.
