Miss Marie Kicking The Hipster Trend

Ok! It’s time to admit that Melbourne’s reputable café scene has become over run with hipsters. There isn’t anything wrong with this! In fact, most café’s wouldn’t think or believe that they come under the hipster umbrella. However, with their single origin coffee beans combined with menu’s being taken over with food such as kale and chia, Melbourne’s love for brunch has become dominated by hipsterisms.

Rosanna’s Miss Marie Cafe is to some extent bringing back old school breakfasts with a modern twist. That’s right! Bacon and eggs, sausages, avocado, hollandaise, potato crush, tomatoes and of course great coffee. They may rock the ‘very Melbourne’ interior with exposed brick, wooden pallets and single exposed light globes, but they are holding true to a great all day breakfast café.

My motto in life is ‘you can never have too much hollandaise!’ Thankfully Miss Marie understands this and this is why living in walking distance to their front door was a massing selling point.

Like most Melbourne cafés, they don’t take bookings, not that they would need to. There is always a list of people waiting to be seated, which is a great sign that the food and service is going to be a knockout. With copious seating outside, Miss Marie is a common stomping ground for those people who can’t go anywhere without their pooch.

Taking my fussy boyfriend out for breakfast has always been a struggle. We have since moved on from this hard time after finding Miss Marie’s ‘Hey Bloke’. Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. Two eggs cooked any which way, Italian sausage, potato crush and homemade relish on toast – great for those traditional breakfast blokes.

Situated next to an op shop with hidden gems, down the road from Simpson army barracks, and around the corner from the Austin and Mercy hospitals, Miss Marie has an influx of different types of people. From army men and women in their cams, to a procession of ambulances parked up the street to Justin and his Jack Russel, Greg and his German Sheppard and Paula and her Poodle.

Miss Marie is a must for those that love a hearty breaky, great coffee, excellent company or just want to try their decadent chocolate slice. Whether it’s breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea or takeaway coffees this gem is a solid café that produces the goods, without the lumberjack themed facial hair behind the coffee machine!
