Keep On Truckin’

Not content with being winning the best burger in Victoria gong, Beatbox Kitchen creator Raph Rashid launched his newest addition to the Melbourne food scene, a tweeting Taco Truck.

Launched outside The Compound Interest in Collingwood last night, a small crowd milled outside the shuttered truck as the advertised 6pm start time ticked by. Like a rock star (or a bride) Taco Truck opened fashionably late and was soon swarming with taco tweeters, gallery goers and curious passers-by.

Things are kept simple with only three tacos on offer: fish (slaw, lime squeeze, poppy mayo) beef (tomato salsa, salsa verde, radish, chipotle mayo) and veg (jalepeno ricotta, slaw, mushroom, spring onion, salsa verde), all $6.

Double wrapped in a corn tortilla, the beef taco has chunky slices of steak and the two salsa’s work well. A hot mouthful in every sense of the word. The fried fish is yum but I would’ve preferred a few more ingredients and some salsa verde chucked in. Otherwise the poppy mayo adds a nice zing.

After gobbling them down quickly I wanted to try the veg, but by then the crowd had swelled. I wonder if you can tweet your take-away orders?
