70s cool at Underground Cinema

Forget Gold Class, bean bags, Director’s Suite and chuck away 3D – for the best, most awesomely immersive cinema experience in Melbourne and possibly the known universe look no further than Underground Cinema.

Here’s how it works. Every three months the crafty UGC crew choose a new location around Melbourne that matches the theme of the film. They deck it out to resemble the set design and feel of the film, plus employ actors to play characters from said flick. Past UGC’s have been held in Newport Substation (time travel), Ripponlea estate (aristocracy) and Docklands (zombie apocalypse).

And everyone (including you) is in costume. And you don’t know the film and location until the day. Trust me, it works.

The theme this time, in a sly nod to Movember, is 70s cool. Which is rad – you could go as ABBA, the cast of Boogie Nights, Geogh Whitlam, the corpse of Jimi Hendrix – the possibilities are endless and exciting and groovy.

But be quick – UGC tickets sell out quicker than a Radiohead soundcheck so get yours at undergroundcinema.com.au.

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
